Documenting Our Coming Demise

I left Cal and started working in Silicon Valley in the late-Cretaceous period (early 1980s). From there, I followed a common trajectory: technical work for some years (primarily networking and embedded systems), internet startups, and then life as a corporate executive and investor, primarily in the AI space.
Amid all the money and mayhem of those years, there was always a quiet background non-blocking thread running in the valley where was tech taking us? This question started out somewhat abstract and theoretical, but as time progressed, it become increasingly tangible. Now, with the rapid rise of AI, it’s really hard to miss the fact that we’re on a collision course with our own creations. Our species is destined to be either transformed or eliminated.
That’s what this substack is about. Computer Science, AI, and the future of the human race. A few other things might get tossed in there as well, but all somewhat related to those interlocking themes.
